  27. Career Path is a comprehensive career selection and planning
  28. system designed to help you answer the questions "Who am I" and
  29. "What career would I like best?".  Career Path will help you
  30. decide on the career that best suits you.
  31.  
  32. Career Path prints out a seven page report that lists a composite
  33. of your interest, abilities, values, capacities, personality
  34. profile, along with IQ score, entrepreneur ability score, value
  35. inventory, and environmental value preference.  Based on these
  36. factors, a customized list of 20 to 40 careers is provided from
  37. an initial data base of over 22,000 jobs.

  39. With the aid of the automatic evaluation form, this list of
  40. careers is further refined to the one or two careers that best
  41. corresponds to you as an individual.

  43. Advance Career Path Plus
  44. The advance Career Path Plus version will provide many addition
  45. tools and insight into helping you get the career that you will
  46. want.  Career Path Plus will you answer the questions "How can I
  47. best get the career I want?"  Career Path Plus will help you
  48. decide on the career and employer that best suits you, and will
  49. show you how best to land the job you want.

  51. After you have determined the career path you want to pursue
  52. through the help of Career Path, you will learn the best way to
  53. approach the market and how best to communicate with prospective
  54. employers.  Career Path Plus will provide guidance in preparing
  55. customized resumes, cover letters, thank you letters, and will
  56. show you how best to prepare for interviews.

  87. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  88. before buying it.  If you try a Shareware program and continue
  89. using it, you are expected to register.

  91. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  92. and the copyright holder retains all rights.  Shareware authors
  93. are accomplished programmers, just like commercial programmers.
  94. The main difference is in the method of distribution.

  96. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software.
  97. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you
  98. can try before you buy.  And because the overhead is low, prices
  99. are also lower.  Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee,
  100. if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.

  102. Career Path is a "shareware program" and is provided at no
  103. charge to the user for an evaluation period.  Feel free to share
  104. it with your friends, but it may not be given away altered or as
  105. part of another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software
  106. is to provide personal computer users with quality software
  107. without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers
  108. to continue to develop new products.

  119. If you find this program useful, it should be registered.
  120. After a trial period, the license to use Career Path is withdrawn
  121. and it may not legally be used without first registering it.

  123. The $29 registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
  124. computer at any one time.  This software may be moved from one
  125. computer location to another, so long as there is no possibility
  126. of it being used at one location while it's being used at another.
  127. In the same way that a book cannot be read by two different people
  128. at the same time, this program may not be used by two different
  129. people at the same time.

  132. Institute.

  134. You are encouraged to pass a copy of Career Path along to
  135. your friends for evaluation.  Please encourage them to register
  136. their copy if they find it useful.  All registered users will
  137. receive a copy of the latest version of the Career Path
  138. system.

  140. Registration
  141. A registration form (Register.Doc) may be easily printed by your
  142. word processor or you can print a registration form within
  143. Career Path.  From the main opening menu, prepare your
  144. printer for printing and push F10.

  147.                       SHAREWARE DISTRIBUTORS
  148.  
  149. Anyone distributing Career Path for any kind of remuneration
  150. must first contact American Institute for authorization.   This
  151. authorization will be automatically granted to distributors
  152. recognized by the (ASP) and such distributors may begin offering
  153. Career Path immediately.  However American Institute must
  154. still be advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date
  155. with the latest version of Career Path.

  158.                       HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
  159.  
  160. Career Path requires:
  161. 1.  IBM PC or compatible computer
  162. 2.  DOS 3.x or later is recommended
  163. 3.  A hard disk with 650K of available space
  164. 4.  A minimum of 540K random access memory
  165. 5.  Either a color or monochrome monitor

  176.                     INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  178. Career Path contains an installation file that automatically
  179. loads itself and has you up and running in about 60 seconds.
  180.  
  181. HARD DISK Installation
  182. 1.  Put the Career Path disk into disk driver A: or B:.  If
  183.     the drive is a 5 1/4", be sure to close the drive door.
  184.  
  185. 2.  Type either A: or B:, depending on the drive used, and then
  186.     push the Enter key.
  187.  
  188. 3.  Type install   then push the Enter key.
  189.  
  190. 4.  The first installation window will ask you if you want to
  191.     continue with automatic installation.  To continue, push the
  192.     Enter key.  The installation program will make a subdirectory
  193.     called \CAREER on your C: drive, and will load all programs
  194.     and files automatically into the subdirectory.

  197. Manual Installation
  198. For manual installation, create a subdirectory, copy Ins.exe to
  199. subdirectory, and run Ins.exe.  Ins.exe is a self extracting
  200. program that will extract all programs and files.  Run set_Util
  201. for the initial set-up of Career Path.

  204.                         TECHNICAL SUPPORT

  206. Technical support is available FREE of charge to registered owners
  207. for a period of 90 days after registering Career Path with:

  211.                       OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
  212.  
  213. Career Path is a very user friendly program that will quickly
  214. and easily guide you.  Where additional help may be needed, help
  215. screens (F1) have been included.
  216.  
  217. STARTING Career Path
  218. From the main or root directory of your C: drive, type in
  219. cd\career and push the Enter key to change to the subdirectory
  220. Career.  To start Career Path,  CAREER and push the Enter key.
  221.  
  222. STARTING Career Path WITH WINDOWS
  223. Career Path may be run from Windows in the stand-alone mode.
  224. After starting Windows, select File, select Run, enter program
  225. path.  C:\Career\Career   To shift between programs in the Window
  226. environment, push the Shift key and the Esc Key together, then
  227. select the desired program.  Remember, as Career Path is running
  228. in the stand-alone mode, if you push the Esc key from the main
  229. menu, you will terminate Career Path and have to start-over with
  230. File and Run to run it again.

  232. Note: The database will not load if you have insufficient memory
  233. available.

  235. MAIN MENU BAR
  236. Career Path opens with the main menu bar.  The menu choices
  237. are: Intro, Test & Report, Selecting Your Career, Getting Your
  238. Career, and Utilities.  Either push the large red letter of your
  239. desired selection or use the left and right arrows to move the
  240. highlight bar to the desired selection and then push the Enter
  241. key.  Additional selections are offered at the bottom of the
  242. screen.  They are:  Help-F1,  Calender-F3, and Database-F5.  Two
  243. additional selections that are not shown is Version-F9, and Print
  244. Registration Form-F10 (for unregistered version).  The Esc key
  245. normally returns you from any section of the program to the main
  246. menu bar and will also exit Career Path with one additional push.
  247.  
  248. The following is a short summary of each of the main menu bar
  249. selection options.
  250.  
  251. Intro - Introduction
  252. A quick explanation of the steps to follow with Career Path for
  253. the best possible results.
  254.  
  255. Test & Report
  256. Select this selection to take your personal interest survey.  It
  257. is best to take this survey when you have a little more than one
  258. relaxed hour available and you are rested.  After printing the
  259. survey results, the program will return you to the main menu bar.
  260.  
  261. Selecting Your Career
  262. Simply follow the instructions and progress one item at a time
  263. down the submenu.  The Weighted Career Evaluation section is the
  264. cumulative combination of all of the preceding sections.  This
  265. section helps you narrow all listed career choices from the survey
  266. down to just one or two careers.
  267.  
  268. From the weighted evaluation form, push the F8 key to customize
  269. the form.  Enter a weighted figure of 1 (lowest) to (9 (highest)
  270. to indicate how important each of the 32 items is to you.  The
  271. first six weighted figures are listed on page 6 of your written
  272. report.  As these figures are based on a range of 0 to 100, you
  273. will need to divide the figures by 10 before entering them.  Push
  274. Q to save your figures.  These figures may be changed any time by
  275. pushing the F8 key again from the weighted evaluation form.

  277. the second part of the weighted evaluation form consists of
  278. entering a figure of 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest) based on your
  279. evaluation of how well the career satisfies each item.

  281. The weighted grand total is listed at the bottom of the screen.
  282. Repeat the valuation for each career that you want to evaluate.
  283. The higher the score, the better it matches your individual wants
  284. and needs.
  285.  
  286. Getting Your Career (Active with advance registered version)
  287. After reviewing the section introduction, select the second item
  288. from the submenu to print needed forms.  Continue selecting the
  289. submenu choices in the order presented.  The database is used to
  290. keep track of whom you have contacted and who you still need to
  291. contact.

  295. The utility screen has its own menu bar with the following
  296. selections.

  302. Offers 40 color combination choices
  303.  
  304. Explosion Speed
  305. Offers control of the rate that windows open (explode) and close.
  306. The new explosion rate will become effective after Accounting
  307. Helper is exited and reloaded.

  309. Scroll Speed
  310. Offers control of the rate that text scrolls when the arrow keys
  311. are being used within a window.
